Plai(Zingiber cassumanar) is in the genus which includes ginger and is widely grown in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand etc. Until quite recently the main country where the essential oil was distilled but recently distillation of this beautiful root oil has been taken up in Indonesia where the plant has been grown for centuries as a spice crop.
The pale yellow mobile oil distilled from the roots displays a fresh spicy, rooty, camphoraceous, grapefruit/yuzu like note with a coniferous undertone.
